SOUTH WEST ZONE QUALIFYING & DEVELOPMENT MEETS

Young ASC is affiliated with the South West Zone (SW Zone) which is part of Southern Inland Swimming Association (SISA).  SW Zone holds 5 qualifying carnivals and 4 development meets over a season, with a rotation system in place for clubs to nominate to host events.  Qualifying carnivals are for competition and attract points for individual swimmers and their clubs.  Many events at qualifying carnivals require swimmers to meet a minimum qualifying time to enter the event.  Development meets are aimed at encouraging swimmers to participate and are often hosted by smaller clubs with 25m pools.

JAMES BROPHY MEMORIAL

The James Brophy Memorial Inter-District Spring Meet (Brophy) is an annual event hosted by Swimming ACT.  This meet brings together swimmers from all over the southern and western parts of country NSW.  Districts compete for the James Brophy Memorial Shield (for handicap score) and the Peter Love Trophy (for overall points score).

Events are the 50m freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly for both girls and boys with ages ranging from 8 and under through to 16 and over.  Each team can have up to 2 competitors in an event.  There are also relays that wrap up the day, often with lots of excitement and tough competition.

In order to qualify to represent South West Zone (SW Zone) at Brophy, swimmers must participate in at least 2 qualifying meets within SW Zone during the current season and prior to nominations closing.  Nominations for team selection are submitted by each club to SW Zone Brophy team selection committee.
